Joe Lagana

Senator Joe Lagana has served the constituents in the 38th District as Assebmlyman since his election in 2013. In April 2018, he was was selected by the district Democratic Committee members to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of then-Senator.

  • As Vice-Chair of the Senate Labor Committee, he ensures passage of legislation that protects workers.
  • He is a sponsor of legislation to establish the Helmets to Hardhats program for New Jersey veterans to be trained in skilled union labor.
  • He fights for workers’ rights to enhance the quality of life of working New Jerseyans.

Prior to his legislative tenure, he was a member of the Paramus Borough Council, from 2012 to 2013.


Senator Lagana was born in Teaneck. He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Fordham University in 2000. He received a juris doctorate, cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004. He is a partner with the Secaucus law firm of Chasan, Lamparello, Mallon and Cappuzzo.


Mr. Lagana and his wife, Jamie, were married in 2006, and they have two daughters.
